Counselling

Counselling and psychotherapy and are about being able to talk to someone about aspects of your life in a safe and supportive environment. You can find ways of making sense of your concerns or experiences and this can lead to a more satisfactory, effective and fulfilled life.

Counselling is often shorter-term, goal-focussed work, looking at a specific issue or event, to increase understanding and possibly make changes. Psychotherapy is often a longer-term and deeper process to understand better yourself and your relationships with others. Counselling and psychotherapy are processes where what we talk about remains confidential unless there is a risk of significant harm to yourself for others.

My name is Mandy Pontin and I am a UKCP registered Counsellor/Psychotherapist. I help individuals and couples reflect on and resolve short-term issues or longer-term difficulties. I am professional, ethical, constructive, approachable, and supportive and use a variety of approaches including Transactional Analysis (original diploma) and Gestalt. I can also offer creativity in sessions as a way of stimulating deeper work. I keep up to date with developments in practices by attending regular CPD. I offer predominantly evening weekday sessions in person or via Zoom. I have worked in a GP surgery and currently volunteer for an organisation who supports those who perpetrate sexual abuse, but also victims of such abuse. I have extensive experience of working with drug and alcohol dependency, relationship difficulties including domestic abuse and bereavement.
